not much to look aT
outsiders seldom grasp the essence

not much to look at
remarkable period of solitude

not much to look at
lost colony

not much to look at
trying not to break dowN

not much to look at
hints at fresh discoveries

not much to look at
and with no end to it

not much to look at
temporary fix

not much to look at
especially challenging to capture

not much to look at
back on the rim of the impact

Everyday places and situations somewhere in the world, in public space. It is difficult to say what it is, the secret of these photographs, which in the classical sense is not a secret at all, because everything is openly revealed. Rather, it could perhaps be called a magical tension. But this conceptual attempt also falls short, because the situation is so everyday, insignificant, the presence of the moment so intense. Of course, Chalet5's photographs - reduced from color to black and white - can be analyzed to a certain extent in purely formal terms. What are the essential moments and experiences that burn themselves into the memory of the individual and the community? Why is it the seemingly "simple" things and events that often prove to be formative energy, key moments, points of departure, memories of human experience, much later, in retrospect?

Intersecting Territories, Pro Helvetia online Pilotprojekt, 2014
